Team Spirit at Little Bit Cleaning
Our focus on team chemistry and certain character traits starts right from the beginning of the interview process. I tell potential new hires that, “What we do is help other people and each other. We are only as strong as our weakest link, so it’s every person’s responsibility to raise the standards of our company no matter who you work with. Do not lie, cheat or steal and always act as if you are being recorded in a home.”
Many of our home owners do have cameras and video in their homes for security purposes, so we want to maintain professional standards by wearing our Little Bit Cleaning name tags, maintaining consistency, and always asking for feedback.
We also have a very transparent feedback system and I give all new employees a copy of the performance review template. We have a 47-page training manual, with a quiz, regarding all of our policies and procedures and all employees are held to the same standards.
We even share all customer feedback with our employees — whether it’s positive or critical to help improve our work in homes. We send out surveys to every single customer whether they are new or have been with us for years. We become a part of people’s families so we take it very seriously.
But our employees are more than a team: they should also be treated like family as well. I don’t just pay my staff. I feed 7 families–myself, and my employees. It keeps me humble and I know the huge responsibility I have to provide a positive work environment for our team to grow and develop.
Working Together
Our first two employees are still working at LBC (6 years and counting!). Another has been with us for 4 years, and two others have been here for more than 2 years.
We buy lunches for our team members, visit them in the homes of our clients, and have staff meetings a few times a year. We also do an annual holiday party in January where we have gone to Dave and Buster’s and we have gone bowling at Lucky Strike. We’ve met partners and children of our staff as well as at our events so that we are all reminded that we aren’t just coworkers, but a team.
Everyone, including myself, has worked side-by-side with one another to clean homes. Because we know that we work best when we work together and support one another.
